NAIDOC Week | School Holiday Activities


Join us as at Hawaiian's Noranda as we celebrate NAIDOC week this July school holidays! We have planned a series of activities and workshops that showcase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and the theme of this year’s NAIDOC Week – Because of Her, We Can!


Aboriginal Music Workshop with Kobi Morrison

Monday 9 July, 2pm 

Enjoy a one-hour learning journey into the amazing sounds of Aboriginal culture. Led by Kobi Morrison, this workshop will teach children about the history of traditional Aboriginal songs and of course, how to sing them!  Recommended for ages 7-14.


Welcome to Country & Traditional Dance with Kiara Girls Academy & Viv Wier 

Tuesday 10 July, 11am

We will usher in festivities and recognise the past and present custodians of this land with a Welcome to Country by Viv Wier, followed by a performance from the Kiara Girls Academy dancers. Kiara Girls Academy is an Australian organisation which drives community-led solutions to overcome obstacles that prevent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls from completing education and reaching their full potential.

Storytelling Sessions with Viv Wier and Lyn Cox

Wednesday 11 July, 11am and 2pm. 

Led by Viv Wier and Lyn Cox, these one-hour sessions will take listeners on a rich journey back in time to discover stories in association with this year’s NAIDOC theme. Lyn and Viv are local Aboriginal elders and members of the Town of Bassendean Cultural Advancement Group. Recommended for all ages.
